A collection of urban sculptures by ‘Sebastian’, Mexico’s most famous contemporary sculptor is expected to be on exhibit in the City of Bellingham from February through October 2010. The opening will coincide with the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Sebastian’s sculptures are anticipated to be exhibited within an easy walking tour of the Cultural District and the new Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher Building.

Sebastian was born in Ciudad Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico. He is not only an artist but also a man of science. His sculpture is visibly concerned with geometric forms and does not submit his geometries to logical symbols, but rather to poetic symbols. The sculpture is defined by the plurality of objects in space, multiplies them and forces us to imagine a combination of proximities and distances, of comings and goings. His material is steel and aluminum, industrial product bathed in colors closer to Benetton that to Huejotzingo.
